Research question

Can recycling processes lead to the creation of an innovative collection of modular home accessories?

Key Words

Recycled, co-designed, interactive, modular, up-cycled, textured, lace, felt

Context & Rationale

There is a lot of waste and hurry in today s home accessories consumption.
An example of it would be how people go to Ikea about twice a year to buy cheap items for their home that they will probably through away in the next two years because it doesn't fit into the mood of the home anymore.
At the same time, a lot of different fibers are now used in this field, and a lot of well-known but also innovative processes exist today to recycle them, but these recycling processes are often used in very particular fields (car industry for instance uses a lot of recycled felt) or have a very strong "recycled look".
What I'm then trying to do is use these processes to create modern and innovative modular home accessories, that people would desire and play with. I am also promoting recycling through an interactive website that would be the selling platform of this company.

the project

I'm presenting here two collections of modular home accessories made with recycled materials:
The first one is named Boxwood Lamps. These gigantic, vibrant and double side modules made with recycled felt can be used as wall lamps or to create three dimensional wall coverings.
The second collection, named Pebble Carpets, is made of textured, double side, woolly, carpets of different size, colour and shape that can cover your floor or even climb on your wall.
All of these products are not only partly recycled but also 100 % recyclable. To promote and organize local recycling, but also to allow people to become co-producers of their home accessories, I'm also presenting an interactive website that should become the selling platform for these products.

Material/ Technology

Biography & contact

I graduated with Honours from les Arts Decoratifs de Paris (ENSAD), in 2006. I have a textile design background specialised in weave and print. My love for texture, shape, and the play between textiles and light in interiors are my driving words.

My works in Central Saint Martins allow me to understand better the possible effects of laser cutting and print on weave, but also challenge my vision of innovative and sustainable textiles for interiors.
