Re- Healing T-shirts

Design Question

Is it possible to give discarded, or generic objects a new life to increase their longevity?

Aim

Through concept, imagery and material create an innovative design solution that reflects not only my individual design style but my interests surrounding sustainbility within contemporary design.

The Project

I was keen to find ways for the user to be become more personally involved with a specific item of product, through either interaction or sentimental attachment in order to increase the products longevity.

I initially began doing this by documenting discarded and generic products. By doing this i was able to document their existence and reaffirm what they may have been and what they could potentially be in the future.

I researched imagery and traditional techniques that would allow the user to interact with a generic object or garment, in this case a plain white t-shirt, through stitching, embellishing and sewing their own sentimental imagery, followed from a simple pattern. While at the same time reinforcing fragile parts of the original design, such as seams and edges.
