Paradise Lost

Future Travel project sponsored by Samsonite 2008

Project Description

"The search for a place in which happiness may be found is always a metaphor for the search to recover a memory of happiness". (Travellers' Tales - Narratives of Home and Displacement, G Robertson)

This luxury collection is aimed at the Silver Surfer demographic for 2020.

By the year 2020 the number of people over 50 will out number younger generations. This demographic are aging but also active and affluent and will take numerous holidays to ever more exotic locations.

This collection has been inspired by this demographic. It is a collection that is only happy or at its most attractive when it's in an exotic location. When it's unhappy then it will look unattractive, bored and plain. Yet, when it's in an exotic location it will look beautiful, playful and naughty.

Intended Outcome

  • To produce three different collections around this scenario:- (i) using (mostly) digital photographs I have taken; (ii) exploring different types of patterns; and (iii) experimenting with processing (computer programming) to create designs.
