Ferrofabric is an ongoing research project. The objective is to develop a fabric made of polarized fibres which are freely suspended enough to sense and display changes in surrounding magnetic fields.

Earth's weak magnetic field emanates from the internal dipole and extends beyond the atmosphere to repel many charged particles streaming from the sun. The stream is rather wild, and the "shape" of our magnetic shield changes as it copes with varying intensities of solar weather. Effects are mostly invisible but are very real and potentially affect many aspects of our life - specifically health and communication technologies.

Based on the Brothers Quay principle that there is an ecological message within objects that are powered by a natural system, this project aims to convey the dynamic nature of our surrounding magnetic habitat.
