Research Question

Can printed textiles enhance playfulness and creativity in fashion?

Rationale & Context

Fashion has questioned the idea that clothing should remain as a constant silhouette. Can garments be designed to adapt to the wearer rather than the wearer adapt to the design? This project will aim to allow the wearer of a printed textile to be able to customise and experiment with their clothing. The printed collection will allow consumers to buy fewer clothes and reinvent them again and again. The wearer can mix and match and extend the garments possibilities through print. Mix and matching in the prints will allow the wearer to be playful and creative with their wardrobe. The aim of the project is to produce a printed textiles collection, which can mix, and match by pattern, colour and scale. The prints will be able to transform into new designs by the wearer changing elements of the design. The prints may be reversible, interchangeable or have hidden elements within. The prints will allow the wearer to be creative with their clothing.
