RE-SILICONE
Biography
A fascination with the tactile and inspirational qualities of rubber and plastics, in particular rubber silicone encouraged me to develop my design skills with the MA Design for Textile Futures.
In 2005, I graduated from Glasgow School of Art where I specialised in woven textiles, working mainly with medical grade rubber silicone tubing, constructing hard wearing fabrics for interiors.
Final Project
By manipulating and incorporating waste rubber silicone with electroluminescent wire, I am using my skills in constructed textiles to create a range of contemporary lighting systems.
Keywords

Research Question
Can waste from the rubber silicone industry be used to design innovative products for the home?
Rational & Context
In the fast growing rubber silicone industry, the inspirational and beautiful materials are often overshadowed by their function.
It is the waste from the rubber silicone industry in particular which fascinates me as it produces an inordinate amount of waste during the manufacturing process. This material is very difficult to recycle and therefore the fastest and cheapest way to dispose of it is by landfill.
By sourcing and designing with waste rubber silicone, I hope to gain recognition for the industry, taking into consideration the environmental issues associated with production and the waste from the process.
Material/ Technology
Waste rubber silicone, E.L. wire
