Designing for Sustainability: Is it worth it?
The Club @ the ICA
Monday 19 March, 2007
Nash & Brandon Rooms
ICA
7:15pm
CaroleCollet spoke on Monday 19 March at The Club at the ICA. Alongside a panel of speakers she addressed what sustainable design actually means, and what the short and long-term benefits of ecodesign are to the development of your business.
With the growing evidence of environmental crisis, sustainability affects every level of organisation, from the small local enterprise to the multinational corporation. Creative businesses who design for sustainabilty can then be seen to to pre-empt future legislation, which would restrict production methods to comply with the principles of economic, social, and ecological sustainability. The success of any leading-edge project or design could then be said to be judged on both its creative and ecological credentials in equal measure. Isn?t it time then that creative practitioners see the environmental sustainability and business ethics of their products as integral to their aesthetic value?
