Can wallpapers integrate technology and traditional craft to enrich personal identity and cultural sustainability in the nomadic lifestyle?
I designed an enticing marriage of jewellery and wallpaper to create the intimacy between the wall and the inhabitant. Meanwhile, it challenges how traditional embroidery can be used to integrate electronics and modern material into the wallpaper design. This bespoke piece will be cherished and kept for a long time for personal identity and cultural sustainable value, as a "must have" emotional attachment for future nomadic life style.
Techniques:
Screen printing, digital print, laser cutting, Rabarian style embroidery and soft circuitry stitch
Material:
Heavy weight lining paper, matt cotton, canvas, conductive fabric & threads magnetic pigment, magnets, LED & batteries mirror Perspex
Biography
Nicole has worked as a fashion designer and buyer in South Asia for years. She is experienced in block printing, hand embroidery and accessory design. She is obsessed with Indian textiles and their inner communication. Also she enjoys refining a tired textile into a new design which is a way of combining an old soul into a new incarnation to meet future habitat needs . Now she is
indulging in drawing, designing, getting lost in London city and getting lost in the printing workshop.
